Cuban in the U.S. defends Ana de Armas after her romance with Díaz-Canel's stepson is confirmed, sparking controversy

"Neither you nor I will solve the problems of Cuba because no one has done so. Everyone here has profited from the suffering of Cuba, living and dying by sending things to Cuba."

Cuban Marlan Vázquez, residing in the United States, has sparked reactions on TikTok after sharing her thoughts on the criticism aimed at Ana de Armas regarding her romantic relationship with Manuel Anido Cuesta, the stepson and 'advisor' of Miguel Díaz-Canel. In her video, Marlan was unequivocal in defending the actress and questioning the judgment regarding what she believes falls within her personal sphere.

"Let the girl enjoy her communist nonsense," she expressed, arguing that the issue is not Ana, but those who criticize. "Hey, what she has between her legs is hers to use with whomever she wants. What does her love life have to do with her professional life?" she stated.

However, her words were not well received by many social media users, who quickly launched attacks against her. The criticisms pointed out Marlan's lack of empathy for the Cuban people and the political context on the island.

"What you need to understand is that your brother was pursued and harassed in Cuba for his differing views. That's called hypocrisy and double standards," a user wrote in the comments. Another person expressed: "Sometimes, Marlita, it's better to remain silent and not comment without knowing. I care about you, but I don't agree with you on this."

Other comments were harsher towards Marlan. "She's no star. Ana is an embarrassment," stated one user, while another added, "In that case, she also used the dictatorship to say she went to act in Spain because of communism. Look for her interviews. Your words can either save you or ruin you."

"You figured out the TikTok formula; now people come at you aggressively, your video blows up, and the goal is achieved," added a user, suggesting that their intent was to spark controversy for visibility. Another was more straightforward: "You're just messing around," they commented sarcastically.

The reality is that despite the defense by the Cuban aesthetician, what has transpired since the confirmation of the romance between Ana de Armas and Manuel Anido Cuesta is a wave of criticism and questioning. Social media users have reproached the actress for her complicity with the regime and her silence and indifference towards the suffering of the Cuban people. This has been echoed by public figures like Los Pichy Boys, presenter Carlos Otero, and boxer Yordenis Ugás.
