The Meteorology Institute (Insmet) reported that Thursday morning was very cold in Cuba due to the influence of continental high pressure systems.

This system maintains a dry and stable air mass over much of the national territory, limiting precipitation, except for some isolated showers along the northeastern coast.

Minimum temperatures in the interior of western Cuba and the central part of the country ranged from 11 to 14 °C, while in the rest of the archipelago, they were between 16 and 19 °C.

In the eastern region, temperatures reached as high as 23 °C. The Indio Hatuey station in Matanzas recorded the lowest temperature of the day at 8.3 °C, establishing itself as one of the coldest spots in the country.

Wednesday, December 4, was also marked by a significant drop in temperatures. On that day, the municipality of Güines, in the province of Mayabeque, recorded a low of 8.9 °C.

This is how Güines became the coldest place in Cuba during a night also marked by the collapse of the National Electric System (SEN), which left millions of Cubans without electricity.

These conditions strengthen the presence of winter on the island, with chilly mornings and moderate afternoon highs between 25 and 28 °C, higher in the southeastern region.
