The family of a woman who disappeared about a month ago in the town of San Germán, in the Urbano Noris municipality of Holguín, has asked for help in finding her.
The woman's name is Mercedes; she suffers from dementia and lives in the Calera 3 neighborhood, according to information shared on social media this Monday by her sister Maricela Acosta.
"My sister has been missing for almost a month; she is from San Germán, Holguín, and suffers from dementia. Please, if you see her, let San Germán know. She is from Calera 3, and her name is Mercedes. Thank you," she stated in the alert she posted in the Facebook group "Missing Persons in Cuba, We Are Your Voice!!!".
Acosta did not specify the exact date when his sister was last seen, the clothes she was wearing, or any other personal details; nor did he provide a contact number, although, as in some cases, social media serves as a means of communication.
The notice about Mercedes' disappearance has been circulating since November on digital platforms, similar to other individuals whose whereabouts are unknown in the country.
Some are found thanks to the collaboration of people who see them and notify their families, while others continue to be missing, such as the case of the young woman Karildi Marín, who has been missing for almost a year in Havana.
In recent years—coinciding with the rise in crime and insecurity in Cuba—reports of missing persons have become increasingly frequent. This situation raises concerns among families who, lacking an official state channel to highlight these cases, desperately turn to social media and independent media outlets for assistance in locating their loved ones.
