Solidarity hairdressers, led by Aylín Sardiña Fernández, provided free haircuts at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Vedado. The initiative combined community support with a call for freedom and hope for Cuba.

A group of supportive hairdressers held a free haircut event this Tuesday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Vedado, Havana, as part of an initiative aimed at providing support and hope to those in greatest need.

The hairdresser Aylín Sardiña Fernández, organizer of the event, shared on her Facebook profile that the day included several regular participants, like David, as well as other beneficiaries who could not be photographed due to time constraints.

"We didn't want December to end without visiting the parish with the solidarity hairdressing event," wrote Sardiña, who also shared an emotional message of hope and unity for the Cuban people: "My greatest wish for them and for all of you is that you finish this year with health and a little bit of hope in your hearts. God has not forgotten the Cubans. 2025 will be our year."

He also expressed his gratitude to his colleague Edu and to Anyelo, who joined the initiative this month, acknowledging the collective effort behind this noble work.

The hairdresser also took the opportunity to deliver a message of freedom and change, emphasizing the need for Cubans to reclaim their essence and learn from history to prevent the repetition of situations that have caused them suffering.

“We must stop merely surviving and start truly living, rediscover our essence and return to who we have always been,” she stated.

He firmly demanded the immediate release of political prisoners in Cuba, emphasizing the importance of defending fundamental rights: “There is nothing more important to a person than their freedom; no one has the right to take it away from you.”

These solidarity events not only address a basic need but also convey a message of hope, love, and resilience during challenging times for the Cuban people.

This type of solidarity initiative in Havana is not the first of its kind. In April, Father Lester Rafael Zayas Díaz shared images of this project led by the young hairstylist Sardiña and her friend Edu in their parish.

"Thank you, Aylín, for being with the favored ones of the Kingdom. I promise that next Monday we will be more," expressed the parish priest on his Facebook profile.

It is a great help for retired individuals whose pensions are insufficient in Cuba to purchase enough food, and who also cannot afford an expensive hairdressing service due to the extreme situation caused by the government's misguided economic policies.

"The solidarity hair salon at Línea y C! Now accompanied by my friend Edu," the stylist recalled on her social media, inviting those in need to take advantage of this cost-free service, which she has been successfully providing to the community for several weeks.

At the end of 2023, the story emerged of another Cuban hairstylist who, amidst the ongoing economic crisis, offered free haircuts to children from vulnerable families in Havana.

The young entrepreneur Clau González, an employee of Studio Kiry Browns, had a busy Christmas day giving haircuts to the children of numerous families on the island.
