A 23-year-old Cuban man, identified as Mauro Michell, is in the process of reuniting with his family in Cuba after being attacked and robbed on a street in Mexico.

A Mexican identified on Facebook as Juan Pérez published on the social network that he found Michell homeless and offered assistance; after which he requested help to locate the family of the migrant, originally from Camagüey.

According to Pérez's account on social media, he found Mauro on a street, beaten and stripped of his belongings.

"I offered them shelter, and I want to see if you can help me find their family," Pérez expressed.

Several internet users from the island who saw the post were able to reach out to Mauro's brother, who is in Camagüey, Cuba.

A Cuban close to the family confirmed, "Thank God Mauro Michell is already speaking with his brother in Camagüey. Thank you, Juan Pérez, for being here."

The Cuban and Mexican communities expressed their gratitude to Pérez and highlighted the humanitarian spirit of the residents in the land of the Aztecs.

"Thank you on behalf of the thousands and thousands of Cubans who have endured that dangerous journey, many of whom did not make it," commented another user.

"Thank God, Mauro had the chance for you to show up and save him. He will always be grateful to you. You’ve gained a brother," he added.

Likewise, several Mexicans expressed their support and reiterated the solidarity of the Mexican people with migrants, especially Cubans.

"Mexicans will always support those who need us; we are all human beings, and here in Mexico, we hold Cubans dear. God bless and protect you," one person stated in the messages.

Thousands of Cubans have crossed Mexico in recent years in search of reaching the United States border.
