"Although they don’t express gratitude, I can’t help it": Cuban shares her experience bringing things to her acquaintances in Cuba

A Cuban living abroad shares her dilemma on TikTok about bringing items to acquaintances in Cuba despite the lack of gratitude. Her experience sparks a debate about the morals and sacrifices of emigrants.

A Cuban resident abroad shared on TikTok her experience before embarking on a new trip to the island, where she plans to visit her daughter thanks to a ticket gifted by her husband.

In her post, which has garnered thousands of views, the woman confessed that despite the difficulties and lack of appreciation she faced on previous trips, she cannot help but bring things for her acquaintances in Cuba because of the hardships they are experiencing.

In the video, posted on the account @dayanaperez9201, the woman recounts how during her last trip she carried six suitcases filled with gifts and items for friends and acquaintances.

However, he lamented that, after distributing them, many did not appreciate the effort: “In the end, no one was satisfied, and I promised myself I wouldn’t do it again.” Despite that resolution, this time he falls into the same habit again. “I know the need that exists on the island, and even though they don’t show gratitude, I can’t help but assist,” he stated.

The post sparked an intense debate among social media users. While some applaud its generosity and empathy, others share similar experiences, noting that a lack of gratitude can be demotivating.

"It's hard to say no when you know that these things can make a difference for someone in Cuba," commented a follower. Another, on the other hand, wrote: "Don't wear yourself out; sometimes you have to think of yourself."

This testimony highlights a common situation among Cuban emigrants who, upon returning to the island, feel a moral obligation to bring gifts and essential items for family and acquaintances, despite the personal sacrifices that this entails.
