A 39-year-old Cuban woman and mother of two children died on the morning of January 15 in a tragic traffic accident in the town of Guayos, in the municipality of Cabaiguán, Sancti Spíritus.
The circumstances of the accident are unclear, although judging by two photos shared in a Facebook group that documents accidents, the victim was riding a motorcycle when they apparently collided with a fence.
The victim, identified as Yinet Rivera Caraballo, served as the municipal director of Labor and Social Security in the municipality of Cabaiguán.
In recent days, there have been numerous condolence messages and expressions of grief for what many consider a profound loss for the people of Sancti Spíritus.
"At just 39 years old, she was one of the founders of the social workers' movement in our country. Graduated in Santiago de Cuba, she provided her first social services in her home province of Guantánamo. She dedicated her life to helping vulnerable individuals in Cabaiguán," noted digital creator Ramonín Díaz in a heartfelt farewell message.
“To care for the dispossessed families and provide assistance to those enrolled in the social assistance program has always been a personal motivation. Your memory will remain scattered across this blessed land that you traversed for the sake of human betterment. Today, in light of your tragic news, we feel as vulnerable as the many people who experienced your selflessness. Thank you, Yinet, for dedicating your life to such a noble cause. Farewell, friend,” concluded the heartfelt tribute.
Another emotional farewell was given by journalist Lillipsy Bello Cancio, who reiterated the late individual's commitment to helping the less fortunate.
"Whether in that conference room where an assembly attempted to manage your nobility, in a theater filled with delegates, or in one of those communities for which you worked so hard, in the home of an elderly person alone, a sick child, or a needy family, regardless of the quorum, the distrustful glances, or the biting questions, you always found a way to persuade the audience, to unite them with your purpose, to defend your 'own,'" Bello Cancio pointed out in an extensive writing.
“Just 39 years old, and you bestowed so much love, so much hope... you were so immensely compassionate, Yinet Rivera Caraballo, you gave so much, you gave everything... even your last breath!”, she concluded.
January is leaving a sad toll on Cuban roads, with several fatalities in different provinces and even the death of an Italian tourist this Thursday in the province of Cienfuegos.
