Leonardo Mayea has been raising Melany Rodríguez González since she was a year old. She is now 13 and has been missing in Cuba for six days. He and the girl's mother are in Peru, desperate, and are asking the neighbors of Cárdenas, Matanzas, for help in locating their daughter.
Melany Rodríguez was last seen on Tuesday at the José Martí High School in Cárdenas. There, she changed clothes and was seen leaving with a little friend who has also been missing since then.
Melany Rodríguez's mother isn't eating and has quit her job in case she has to return to Cuba urgently. On the Island, the girl is under the care of her aunt, and this isn't the first time she has caused a scare for the family. However, her father explains, she has never spent so much time away from home.
Although he is not her biological father, Leonardo Mayea claims that Melany Rodríguez is his "little girl" because he raised her since she was a little one. He understands perfectly how difficult it is to be a teenager in Cuba today without having parents nearby, which is why he asks his daughter to come back home.
The concern is immense for this Cuban family that has already notified the authorities about the disappearance of the girl and is currently searching for her on their own, so far without any positive results.
Anyone who has seen Melany Rodríguez or knows of her whereabouts is asked by her father to call the minor's aunt at the phone number 59452653.
Increasingly frequent are the alerts for disappearances in Cuba. One of the most heartbreaking cases is that of Felicia Gómez, 67 years old, who was last seen on December 5, 2024, in the town of La Ermita, where she had lived with her family for 40 years. Since then, she has been sought tirelessly and unsuccessfully.
Despite the efforts of local authorities, Felicia Gómez has not been found, and her family continues to keep her photo on Facebook, reminding everyone that they have not lost hope of finding her alive.
Felicia Gómez Díaz left her home, a small family farm in the town of La Ermita, on December 5th at 8:00 AM. She had been living there for 40 years, on the road that connects Trinidad to Sancti Spíritus. She was wearing a green coat, leggings, rubber boots, and a blue baseball cap from the local team. She told her husband she was going to check on their cows. Around nine in the morning, an hour later, her husband noticed she was missing and began to look for her. Since then, they have had no news of her.
From the very beginning, neighbors and family members from the area dedicated themselves to the search. The woman, mother of two daughters (Yaneisy and Yudisleisy Gómez Gómez), is diabetic but left her house after having breakfast. Those close to her rule out the possibility of theft, as the cows she went to look for returned on their own. "The cows always go to the same place and come back by themselves."
