On the morning of this Wednesday, an electric bicycle was found submerged in the Guaso River, in the city of Guantánamo, sparking all kinds of rumors about its origin.
"A young man was killed on the San Justo bridge and they threw away his electric bike. How much longer, gentlemen?", stated an anonymous post in the Facebook group Revolico Guantánamo.
“Please, if you have a family member, neighbor, or friend with an electric bicycle, reach out to them right now. This one was found abandoned on the Aguilera bridge. It is still unclear if there are any bodies, alive or deceased. Please, the situation on the street is getting worse and worse,” pointed out another internet user, in this case from the Facebook group Revolico San Justo.
The source -also anonymous- accompanied its message with images of the bicycle, submerged in the waters of the river.
Hours later, the official pro-government Facebook profile "Elizabeth Ferrer" denied that it was a crime scene.
The official source indicated that several witnesses reported the unusual discovery to the authorities.
“Following established protocols, the Provincial Operational Guard, along with specialized forces from the Fire Department, conducted a thorough exploration of the area and recovered the bicycle, finding no evidence of a murder,” reported Ferrer.
He also added that an “electric bicycle without its battery” was found, which will be held by the authorities until its owner is located and the circumstances of the discovery are clarified.
"And who would be crazy enough to throw away a 'motorina', given how much they cost? Something must have happened", a commenter expressed with doubts on social media.
Despite the fact that it would initially be false to say that the bicycle -of the Italian brand Ducati- is linked to a murder, many internet users are wondering what might have happened.
"The owner threw her and then he was stabbed twice," asserted a commentator without providing further details.
However, another version suggests that the light vehicle was stolen early on Wednesday morning from a woman in line at Bufetes Colectivos.
"They say they took away the battery, which is the most important thing," emphasized a user in the group.
As of the closure of this note, the mystery surrounding the origin of the electric bicycle that appeared submerged in the Guaso River remains.
