A 27-year-old Cuban citizen, identified as Carlos Omar Morales, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in Italy for the death of Teodoro Ullasci, which occurred on March 22, 2024, in L'Aquila, in the central part of the country.

Morales, residing in L'Aquila, was accused of homicide with intention to inflict harm in complicity with Alexandru Dumitru Balan, 37 years old and of Romanian nationality, local media reported.

Preterintentional homicide occurs when someone is killed without the intention of doing so, but with the intent to cause harm that could lead to death.

According to Morales' statements during the trial, the victim had been threatening him to help distribute medications that had been prescribed to him.

Morales stated that, feeling cornered and under the influence of narcotics, he hit Ullasci, but he did not realize the seriousness of the situation until later.

The images from the security cameras on Fortebraccio Street showed Morales hitting the victim, which, according to the expert from the Prosecutor's Office, Giuseppe Calvisi, triggered an arrhythmia that proved fatal for Ullasci.

The defense argued that the combination of alcohol, cocaine, and other medications in Ullasci's system could have been the cause of his death, regardless of the blow.

However, the court demonstrated that the coup was the triggering factor and sentenced Morales to 12 years in prison.

After the tragic death of Teodoro Ullasci, 59 years old, his family, originally from Sardinia, traveled to L'Aquila to complete the funeral arrangements and assist the authorities in the investigation.

They called on anyone who had information about the incident to get in touch with the police, emphasizing the importance of fully clarifying the facts.

In addition, the family requested help to find "Akki", Teodoro's little dog, who had gone missing after the incident and was wandering around the historic center of L'Aquila.

They asked anyone who saw her to try to keep her safe and to contact them to facilitate their reunion.
