The arrest took place in the city of La Calera, in central Chile, after an investigation revealed that the individual forged documents to work as a healthcare professional at a local family health center (Cesfam), local media reported.

According to information from the authorities, the individual, whose identity has not been revealed, was providing medical care without being registered with the Medical College of Chile or having their degree validated in the country.

The complaint was filed when he was required to take the National Unified Medical Knowledge Examination (Eunacom), which he allegedly forged.

Despite being discovered, he continued to practice in private consultations in the commune of Quilpué, where he was eventually apprehended by officials from the Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim) of La Calera.

The sub-prefect Octavio Estévez Verales, head of the Criminal Investigation Brigade of La Calera, explained to El Observador that the arrest was the result of an investigation initiated last October, through a local prosecutor's order.

"Today we successfully apprehended an individual of Cuban nationality who was practicing their profession illegally, specifically as a general physician specializing in traumatology," stated the authority.

“Through various diligences, we managed to place him in different care centers within both the public and private network. Finally, today we successfully located him in a clinical center in the city of Quilpué, which allowed us to arrange the respective detention order,” he stated.

The chief prosecutor of La Calera, Juan Sebastián de la Fuente, formalized the arrest for the crimes of illegal practice of the profession and forgery of a public document.

The Cuban was subject to national stay measures and monthly reporting, while the investigation period was set at 150 days.
