In recent hours, shocking details have emerged from relatives, neighbors, and witnesses of the tragic incident in which a Cuban was killed, devoured by crocodiles on the morning of last Friday, after falling into a crocodile farm in the Ciénaga de Zapata.

The unfortunate event took place specifically in the tourist center Boca Guamá, in the province of Matanzas.

The identity of the victim has not yet been officially revealed, although local residents indicated that he was called "Pablo," and was known as "El Chino."

According to witnesses and acquaintances, the man apparently made the decision to jump into the breeding ground voluntarily and while intoxicated.

Heartbreaking testimonies

Kevin Fernández, a worker at the site, witnessed the incident and described the scene as terrifying.

"Everything happened right in front of me, I work there and he just jumped. He was drunk, the most horrifying scene I've ever experienced in my life. The images won't leave my head. It's the first time since 1959, when the facility was built, that something like this has occurred," Fernández said in the comments section of one of the many forums where the information has been published.

For her part, Marinita Núñez Alarcón, the victim's niece, expressed the family's dismay and questioned the security measures at the breeding facility.

"The gentleman was my uncle. He left early, as he does every day, to run errands, but who would have thought he would head to that place? His family is grieving, and his children, of course, due to this horrific event. Please, respect the pain of others with comments that are unnecessary. Everyone has family, and anything can happen," Núñez Alarcón said.

"Perhaps that day he wasn't well balanced, but we don't know why he fell or if he slipped, we don't know," he added.

The woman said that her uncle "was very well-known and sociable," and she questioned why the security guards would let him in at that hour.

"Now, what I don't understand is what the guards were doing that allowed him to enter that area at that time. Obviously, they did not perform their duties properly. There is no remedy for what has happened, but it could happen again," he concluded.

Another witness, Leonel García, a waiter from Jagüey, stated that the man did not fall accidentally, but rather jumped intentionally.

"He didn't fall, he jumped. He took off his clothes, was left in his underwear, and started shouting that he hadn't had bread or eaten for four days," García noted.

The drama behind the tragedy

Acquaintances of "El Chino" claim that he was going through difficult times in his personal life. Rolando Bencosme, who knew him, revealed that the man was in a desperate situation.

"El Chino was a good person, but life is complicated. He was very estranged from his family. Just two days ago, he talked to me and said he was fed up with life. Today was his birthday, according to him, and his family had sidelined him,” Bencosme said.

"We were like everyone in this country, pretty messed up. There are no opportunities for anyone, and you can't speak out. As the Galician from Pi says, we are unable to understand the issues, and not everyone has the same capacity to digest all of this. But we are in a very bad situation, we have no options, just like he didn’t have any. And I ask for forgiveness from his family; may he rest in peace. When one reaches that limit, you no longer care about anything. This is how we Cubans live day by day," he concluded.

Neighbors of the deceased also lamented what happened.

"In peace may my neighbor rest, El Chino, always with his music equipment. He did not deserve such a harsh death. What a tragedy. What kind of state must that soul and mind have been in to do this? Only he knows what was happening. Rest in peace, Chino, your neighbors and friends will always remember you. Much light to you," said Niurka Quintana.

Melissa Pérez Castillo, another neighbor, also expressed her sorrow over the loss of a man she described as hardworking and beloved.

"El Chino was a good person. Pablo, as he was called, was a hard worker, a good neighbor. But life and the conditions were not on his side. Problems that he swallowed, enduring work, hunger... became the breaking point; he could no longer take it." said Pérez Castillo.

"May he rest in peace, we will always remember him with his horn listening to music. We will miss you, because there are few like him. A cry to the heavens. RIP," he added.

The Guamá crocodile breeding facility is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region and is dedicated to the conservation of the Crocodylus rhombifer, an endemic species from Cuba that is endangered.

The area is secured, so it is unclear how the man managed to access the restricted zone and whether there was any negligence in monitoring the facility.

As of the closure of this report, official sources have yet to comment on what happened.
