A cyclist died in a tragic traffic accident that occurred on the morning of this Monday in the municipality of Niquero, in the province of Granma.
The victim lost control of their bicycle and fell under a Kamaz truck loaded with sugarcane, which reportedly tried to maneuver to avoid them, but unfortunately hit them, as revealed by the news portal La tijera on Facebook.

The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. in front of the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIUM) at the "Gelacio Calaña" hospital.
After the incident, hospital medical personnel gathered at the scene, according to a photo shared on social media.
However, nothing could be done for the victim, identified by his friends and neighbors as "Papito Cuba", who died instantly.
In the comments section of the mentioned publication, several people close to the deceased indicated that the man had a disability.
“Given his physical limitation, I don't know how he could ride a bike,” commented a local neighbor.
"The poor man had no control over his problem in his head; we always knew he couldn't ride a bike, and look at him now,” added another person who knew him.
Eyewitnesses insist that the truck driver was not at fault for the accident.
“I don’t know why some people comment without knowing how it happened, the driver is not to blame, it was that the cyclist had problems and lost control,” explained a neighbor.
Another person confirmed that the impact occurred with the rear of the truck, reinforcing the account that the cyclist fell suddenly, and the driver did not have a chance to react in time.
The accident has had a significant impact in Niquero.
"Rest in peace, friend, neighbor, comrade in struggle. May God place you in a little corner of His embrace," wrote a close associate of the victim.
"Very, very sad for both, the driver was a great person, honest and hard-working, and the victim was a real fighter", said another resident in the area.
On the other hand, the event has sparked outrage among some witnesses due to the lack of immediate measures to cover the victim's body in the middle of the street, despite the fact that they were in front of the SIUM.
"They didn't have a sheet to cover that corpse; everyone had to witness it," criticized someone.
However, another person who was at the scene clarified that "they did cover him with two polyethylene sheets, which was the earliest appearance."
The accident sparked a debate about road safety in Niquero, where, as is the case in many municipalities across the country, the streets are in poor condition.
"My Niquero is growing old; its streets are just potholes," lamented a resident.
As of the closure of this note, no further details have emerged about the tragic traffic incident.
According to data from the National Road Safety Commission, in 2024 there were 7,507 traffic accidents, a 12% decrease compared to the 8,556 reported in 2023.
Additionally, deaths decreased by 13% (634), and the number of injured was 6,613, which is 4% less compared to the incidents that occurred the previous year.
Authorities insist that the main causes are driver infractions, followed by the poor condition of the roads due to lack of maintenance and the age of the vehicle fleet, which averages between 40 and 70 years.
