Italian authorities dismantled a gang of thieves of Latin American origin that operated in several regions of the country, including the province of Brescia.

Among those detained is an unidentified Cuban citizen, who, along with four Chilean citizens and one Argentine, all aged between 24 and 34, is accused of having committed at least ten robberies within a few days, local media reported.

The arrest took place on Thursday, February 13, following a warrant signed by the deputy prosecutor of Como, Alessandra Bellù.

According to the information provided by the police, the gang specialized in home and business robberies, using sophisticated methods to avoid detection.

However, thanks to intelligence work and surveillance, law enforcement was able to identify and capture those involved.

According to investigations conducted by the Mobile Brigade of Como, the group committed ten burglaries in residences between January 28 and February 1, stealing jewelry, designer accessories, and clothing in several locations across the province of Como, as well as in Brescia, Pavia, Cremona, Varese, and Novara.

The police reported that the modus operandi of the criminals was always the same: they would check houses by ringing the doorbell to see if anyone was home, then they acted by easily entering through doors and windows, even on upper floors. The times when they committed the crimes were always between 5 PM and 7 PM.

The Mobile Brigade of Como was following the trail of the criminal group and, for the investigation, placed the car in which the criminals were traveling, a dark-colored Alfa Tonale, under environmental surveillance.

The detainees will face charges of aggravated robbery and conspiracy, while authorities continue the investigation to determine if there are more individuals involved in the criminal network.

This year, several incidents have been reported in Italy involving Cuban citizens in criminal activities. One of the most notable cases is that of Carlos Omar Morales, a 27-year-old Cuban sentenced to 12 years in prison for the death of Teodoro Ullasci in L'Aquila.

Morales, along with a Romanian accomplice, was charged with manslaughter after striking the victim, resulting in a fatal arrhythmia.

Recently, a Cuban woman was arrested for her alleged involvement in the theft of luxury perfumes from a store in the town of Ancona, in the central part of the country.
