Several areas of Santiago de Cuba, including neighborhoods such as Punta Gorda Alta and Aguadores, are facing serious difficulties due to the lack of drinking water supply, a situation that has persisted for over four months.

Since October, residents of these neighborhoods have not had regular service, leading to growing discontent among the population, according to a report by journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on the social network Facebook.

"Neighborhoods in Litoral Santiaguero have not received water since October. This is the case for Punta Gorda Alta and Aguadores," wrote the activist against the communist regime of the island.

The post by Mayeta received full support and many internet users mentioned other areas facing a similar situation, while the Water and Sewer Company of Santiago de Cuba remains indifferent to the unfortunate circumstances.

A user stated that “the Abel Santamaría Micro 3 high-rise also doesn’t have water, and we depend on the electricity for pumping,” while another comment noted that the town of Cristo is facing the same ordeal.

This has forced families to seek alternative sources for their supplies, which has increased the challenges, as the situation affects not only household needs but also hygiene and public health in these communities.

The residents of these areas are demanding that the authorities take urgent measures to restore the service and ensure access to water, an essential resource for daily life and the health of the population.

In September 2024, more than 600,000 Cubans were without access to potable water supply services, and the Institute of Hydraulic Resources blamed the blackouts.

The reality indicates that the energy crisis is far from over and the issues with the vital liquid are spreading to all provinces of a country in ruins.
