The Cuban professional boxer Gustavo Trujillo, known as "The Cuban Assassin," expressed his discontent with the Cuban exile community after being the target of criticisms and accusations that he believes are unfounded.
Trujillo won by knockout in the first round of his fight this Saturday against boxer Matthew McKinney at the Hard Rock. He demonstrated that he is in optimal shape and can continue to excel in his career in Professional Boxing in the United States.
After the fight, the Cuban was interviewed by journalist Beto Ferreiro. "The Cuban Assassin" announced that he will make a radical change in his life, completely distancing himself from political stances to focus on boxing.
"I'm going to focus on boxing, which is what I know how to do. The Cuban community has been ungrateful for what I've done for it. I've lost thousands of dollars for speaking out against the dictatorship. I've been sanctioned from leagues, but I've stood firm. Now, a supposed opponent, instead of going after the dictatorship, is targeting me," said the fighter.
Trujillo claims that he is receiving unfounded accusations
During the interview, Ferreira asked Trujillo about the accusations circulating on social media, where some have labeled him as a "repressor in Cuba." The boxer categorically denied these claims and emphasized that his history has always been marked by his open rejection of the Cuban regime.
"I am one of the athletes who has always spoken out against the dictatorship; no one forced me, I did it on my own. Now I see the same people who supported me criticizing me because someone else said that I was this or that, without bothering to investigate," Trujillo declared.
The Cuban boxer announced that he will not sit idly by and will sue those who spread these accusations.
Although he did not mention specific names during the interview, in a previous statement on his social media, the boxer pointed to the Cuban opponent Omar Torres Sosa as one of the main culprits behind the defamations.
Trujillo explained that Torres accused him of being an oppressor of the Cuban regime in Morón, Ciego de Ávila, without any evidence to support those claims. He insisted that he joined the National Team at only 14 years old and then left Cuba at 19. "I didn't have time to do that crap," he remarked.
Official statement and legal warning
The working team of Trujillo, CG Investments Corp, issued an official statement rejecting the accusations and warning that they will take legal action against those who continue to defame the boxer.
"We assert that these accusations are completely false. Gustavo Trujillo is an athlete dedicated to his sport, with no affiliation to oppressive regimes or any criminal behavior. These claims are obvious attempts to damage his reputation," the statement reads.

In the same text, it denounces that platforms such as El Mañanero, Hola Otaola, Cubanos por el Mundo, and Asere Pensante have irresponsibly spread the accusations.
Disillusionment with the Cuban community
Beyond the legal battle, Trujillo did not hide his disappointment with the Cuban community in exile. "The community of one, the one you think cares for you, does not support you when it really matters," he lamented.
The athlete also noted that these accusations have impacted his professional and personal life. "Honestly, I don't want to know anything about the Cuban community," he concluded.
In 2020, Trujillo stepped into the ring wearing a shirt that said "Díaz-Canel singao", showcasing his stance against the Cuban regime. However, that same year he also directed strong words at Cuban opponents in Miami whom he considered traitors.
Time has passed, and after observing how the Cuban community has directed criticism at various figures, Trujillo has decided to step back from the political debate and move forward independently. He stated that, once he resolves the legal conflict he is involved in, he will focus exclusively on his sports career.
