The renowned Cuban radio host and director Jorge Luis Michelena passed away on Wednesday in Havana at the age of 50.
Michelena worked at the capital station Radio Metropolitana, where he was at the helm of the popular program "Mezcla" for 27 years.
"The home radio is in mourning. Our Jorge Luis Michelena, director of the programs Mezcla and De Noche en La Habana, passed away on the night of February 26, 2025. An excellent program director, screenwriter, broadcaster, and president of the artistic council of our station," the broadcaster recalled on X.
Radio Jaruco, from Mayabeque, where Michelena began his career in 1991, also mourned the passing of the versatile professional.
"You will always be with us, in your constructive and critical way of viewing reality, in your precise words that make us think, and your love for the Condal. Rest in peace, friend," expressed the message.
The radio and television host Guillermo Rivero de la Rosa paid tribute to his colleague and friend.
"That's the only way I want to remember you... Thank you for so many years of teaching and professionalism, 27 years in the same program, Mezcla. So many stories, so many joys, so many recognitions... Fly high, my brother Jorge Luis Michelena, the sky awaits you so that from there, you can watch over us," he wrote.
According to photos shared on social media, it seems that Michelena had been quite ill for some time, as he appeared very thin, gaunt, and bald.
In her latest posted photograph, she appears with her mother. "Nothing compares to when mom is with you," she expressed.
On January 25, the announcer celebrated his 50 years on Cubavisión's program "Mediodía en TV," where he received recognition from his colleagues.
