Descendants of Galicians in Cuba will be able to travel to Galicia with scholarships or a signed work contract

The Retorna Cualifica Emprego program facilitates the return of Galicians from abroad with a guaranteed employment contract

The Secretary General for Emigration of the Xunta de Galicia, Antonio Rodríguez Miranda, held an information session in Havana in front of approximately 500 people, with the aim of presenting the various aids and opportunities available for Galicians abroad interested in returning to their homeland.

During the meeting, the Retorna Cualifica Empleo Program was emphasized, an initiative that allows Galician emigrants to return to the Spanish autonomous community with a work contract signed from their country of residence.

"This pioneering program aims to match the employment needs of returning individuals with available job openings in Galician companies, facilitating their integration into the labor market and ensuring economic stability for those who choose to return," explained Miranda in remarks captured by the digital portal Crónicas de la Emigración.

The Xunta de Galicia has made a significant investment under the Estratexia Galicia Retorna, allocated with 175 million euros and structured into 37 measures focused on training and professional integration.

Cuba is the third country with the highest number of citizens of Galician origin, with a figure close to 50,000 residents, surpassed only by Argentina and Brazil.

In this context, the Xunta has strengthened its commitment to the Galician community on the island, offering mechanisms that facilitate their return and reintegration in Galicia.

Scholarships and support for those who are not of working age

For those Galicians who wish to return but are not of working age, the Xunta has also designed a scholarship system aimed at training in academic programs related to the economic development of the region.

"We want those who return to have a guaranteed opportunity, whether in the job market or through training that allows them to build a future in Galicia," said the Secretary General of Emigration.

Economic support for Galicians remaining in Cuba

Rodríguez Miranda also mentioned the Galicians who, for various reasons, choose to remain in Cuba.

Economic aid has been established for families in vulnerable situations.

"Each year, a one-time payment in euros is granted to help overcome the economic crisis facing the island,” he specified.

A meeting to strengthen ties with the Galician community in Cuba

The meeting in Havana also allowed attendees to ask questions about the return mechanisms and receive detailed information about the procedures to follow in order to access the aid programs.

The Xunta de Galicia emphasized the importance of these events to ensure that the Galician community abroad is aware of all the available options.

Miranda also emphasized the importance of keeping Galician identity alive in Cuba, strengthening the cultural and social ties between the emigrant community and their homeland.
