Traffic in Havana was severely affected this Tuesday following an unusual incident on the railway line between Diez de Octubre and Arroyo Naranjo: a train ran out of fuel on the tracks, blocking vehicle flow in the Café Colón area and forcing several public transport routes to be diverted.

The information was shared by the Facebook profile "Transportación Habana TH", which alerted users about the unexpected event and its repercussions on the city's mobility.

“There is an unexpected issue on the train line between Diez de Octubre and Arroyo Naranjo. A train has run out of fuel and is blocking traffic at Café Colón,” the post indicated.

The incident forced transport authorities to modify the routes of several bus lines, including the main lines P6, P8, P9, P10, A12, Gacela 17, and Gacela 1, which were required to detour through San Leonardo towards Porvenir to return to their usual path.

In addition to the buses, the blockade caused a significant traffic jam in the area, affecting private drivers and cargo transport that travels through that corridor.

On social media, numerous users expressed their astonishment at the situation, describing it as "surreal" and "a reflection of the collapse of transportation in Cuba."

Some commented that the fact that a train stops due to lack of fuel highlights the logistical difficulties and the supply crisis the country is facing.

Erick Hernández emphasized: “But what is this? It's a mess, oh my goodness. And we're not sinking. No, we're fools, we're in hell, and it's a real hell in Candela.”

"Incredible, but true. What we see today was something we could never have imagined," emphasized Ramón Valdés Olivera.

For her part, Ileana Vergara Valdés expressed: “My God!!! Trains that leave without the necessary fuel and get stranded anywhere and at any time... it’s unprecedented.”

Delfín Tarajano joked: “As long as an airplane doesn't run out of fuel mid-air, everything can be fixed.”

Andy Rodríguez, who identifies on Facebook as an employee of UEB Terminal Alamar, clarified that "it wasn't the fuel that caused the problem; it was a failure of the locomotive, nothing to do with fuel."

However, as unusual as it may seem, this is not the only evidence of the economic crisis facing Cuba.

Less than three years after its grand reopening, the Cienfuegos railway station has closed again just a few days ago, this time due to a risk of collapse.

The news, confirmed by the official media outlet Cinco de Septiembre, has caused outrage among the residents of Cienfuegos, who see this incident as further evidence of the inefficiency in resource management and the fragility of public works on the island.

At the beginning of the year, the children's train, a popular attraction among families in Santa Clara, was transformed into a means of public transportation for the local community, amid the severe mobility crisis caused by fuel shortages and the deterioration of the motor vehicle fleet that the country is facing.

The small train, which previously only operated within Parque Vidal and its surrounding areas as a recreational activity, now connects peripheral neighborhoods with the city center.
