A few days before the start of the III Elite League of Cuban Baseball (LEBC), the Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana, known as the "Colossus of Cerro," is undergoing a "renovation" process that essentially boils down to a fresh coat of paint and some repairs at sales points.

Although the effort is valid, it is an attempt to beautify the place in anticipation of the competition, although without significant structural changes that would genuinely enhance the fan experience.

According to the digital site JIT, the goal of the sports and political authorities in the capital is to present the stadium as a more appealing space, not only for baseball practice but also for the recreation of attendees.

However, beyond painting the exterior and interior areas and some repairs in cafeterias, the bulk of the efforts appears to be focused on improving the points of sale, where the offerings remain extremely limited.

This is more about the need to generate income than a genuine intention to provide better service to fans, who have to make do with limited food and merchandise options.

In statements to the mentioned media outlet, Silvia Pereira, the stadium director, affirmed that the renovation is 70% complete and will be finished before the tournament begins.

"The goal is for players to have better conditions to perform and provide a better show for the audience," Pereira stated. However, in reality, the only spectacle at the Latino remains the game, because outside the field, whose conditions were deplorable in May 2024, entertainment options remain minimal.

The projects include the creation of new facilities, such as restaurants, cafés, pizzerias, and ice cream shops, as well as the installation of screens, tents, and an arcade in the outdoor areas.

However, it remains to be seen whether these promises will materialize or if, as has happened on previous occasions, they will end up being announcements without real impact. In the meantime, the Estadio Latinoamericano is preparing to host the Leones de Industriales in their debut on March 15 against Pinar del Río, with its fresh coat of paint and the hope that this time fans will find something more than just a baseball game.
