This Sunday afternoon, the firefighters extinguished a fire in Polipalo, on the Mar Verde beach road, in Santiago de Cuba.

According to confirmed official profiles, the fire originated in a green area and spread quickly, moving towards a zone where it could affect several houses.

"On a busy Sunday, here we are at Polipalo with Maricela, the president of the Popular Council, Diuver the delegate, and the team from Forestal and the Firefighters as we managed to extinguish a fire that threatened to affect several homes," wrote Yaneydis Hechavarría, the author of the post.

In its statement, it urged to avoid fire in green areas "where the intense drought is conducive to wildfires."

Also this weekend, a fire on the hill where the transmission tower of Cuban Television is situated in Santa Clara caused great concern among the residents of that central area.

According to the official communicator Henry Omar Pérez, at this moment, forces from the Ministry of the Interior and the Fire Department are working on firefighting efforts to prevent damage to this key infrastructure for communication in the region.

In light of the proximity of the fire, the authorities shut down the electric generator that supplies power to the transmission tower.

Another large-scale fire devastated several homes in the community of Playa Cunagua, in the municipality of Bolivia, Ciego de Ávila, leaving many families homeless.

This is the second incident of a similar nature affecting the area in the last two years, which has raised concern among the residents.

The flames spread quickly, consuming homes and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. "Many lamented losing everything once again," a source stated.

So far, authorities have not provided information on the causes of the fire or the exact extent of the material and personal damages. However, this new incident is reminiscent of the one that occurred in February 2023, when a similar fire destroyed at least 18 homes in the same community.
