The early hours of this Tuesday were marked by low temperatures in several locations in the western and central regions of Cuba, with values dropping to as low as 8.0 °C in some areas, due to the arrival of a cold front to the island.
The meteorologist Bryam Pérez Valdés reported on Facebook that, according to the network of meteorological stations, Santo Domingo in Villa Clara recorded the lowest temperature at 8.0 °C, followed by Indio Hatuey (11.1 °C), El Yabu (11.9 °C), and San Juan y Martínez (12.0 °C), among other locations where the temperatures also dropped below 15 degrees.
Additionally, other locations also recorded low temperatures, such as Jagüey Grande (12.0 °C), Aguada de Pasajeros (12.0 °C), Pinar del Río (13.1 °C), Playa Girón (13.2 °C), Cienfuegos (13.3 °C), and Güines (13.7 °C).
Meanwhile, in areas such as La Piedra (14.0 °C), Caibarién (14.3 °C), Jovellanos (14.6 °C), Júcaro (14.8 °C), and Sagua la Grande (15.0 °C), the temperatures were slightly above 14 degrees, but still within a cool range for this time of year.
The meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez reported last Saturday on Facebook that a new cold front will affect the western region of Cuba starting Monday.
The specialist emphasized that with its arrival, rain is expected in some areas, as well as winds from the north at speeds between 20 and 35 km/h and higher gusts, which could create swells along the northwestern coast.
Additionally, he emphasized that the system would progressively advance across the rest of the country, causing a drop in temperatures nationwide.
It also noted that it could generate another cold dawn in several areas, similar to the one recently recorded in the west and center of the island.
The previous cold front resulted in noticeably cool mornings in several towns in the interior of Mayabeque and Artemisa, with minimum temperatures dropping to as low as 7.5 °C in Bainoa, according to the national network of meteorological stations.
The meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez explained on Facebook that this significant drop in temperatures, which is unusual for this time of year, was mainly due to weak winds, clear skies, and stable atmospheric conditions during the night.
The advance of this system over the west of Cuba generated intense rains and thunderstorms, particularly affecting Havana.
According to the Meteorological Institute, this phenomenon caused significant rainfall, strong winds, and storm surges along the northern coast.
As a result of these weather conditions, the Provincial Transport Company of Havana announced the suspension of the Regla ferry service.
