The Miami Police arrested a 59-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing another man of the same age, who was killed on February 5 in front of the restaurant El Cacique in downtown.

Both individuals reportedly had an argument over money moments before the attack, according to police reports.

The victim, named Wilfredo Clemente Campo Alegre, was found bleeding on the sidewalk in front of the establishment located at 112 West Flagler Street, and was transported in critical condition to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died shortly after from a stab wound to the torso.

The investigations advanced thanks to security cameras that captured an individual, identified as Luis Acosta-Barbón, fleeing the scene on a white electric scooter.

Although he initially did not have a fixed location, he was located thanks to an anonymous call that alerted the police to his presence in the Allapattah neighborhood, specifically at Northwest 17th Avenue and 23rd Street.

The agents intercepted him and issued a traffic fine before arresting him for resisting without violence.

Later, in the homicide office, Acosta-Barbón was interrogated without the presence of a lawyer, where he denied knowing the victim despite surveillance footage placing him at the scene of the crime. When presented with this evidence, the suspect made a statement that was excluded from the official report.

The arrest was supported by key testimonies.

A witness informed the Police that days before the crime, Campo Alegre mentioned he owed money to an individual nicknamed "Flaco," which is also the name by which Acosta-Barbón is known. He was positively identified in a photographic lineup conducted days after the crime.

This week, during a court hearing, a judge found probable cause to proceed with the charges of second-degree murder and ordered that Acosta Barbón remain detained without bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center.

The Miami Police confirmed that the investigation is still active and do not rule out new revelations in the coming days.
