A man from Sunrise, in Broward County, Florida, was arrested for murdering his mother inside his apartment, according to authorities.
According to the arrest report, which was accessed by Local 10 News, Jorge Omar Torres, 29 years old, was jailed on Saturday morning and is charged with premeditated murder.
The Sunrise police reported that they received a call last Friday about a shooting and a naked man running in and out of the back door of his apartment.
Later, the police contacted Torres' brother, who told them he believed that the accused had just shot their mother.
Upon arriving at the crime scene, the agents observed blood seeping from under the front door of the house, and upon entering, they found the victim dead on the floor.
Torres was naked in the backyard of a nearby apartment when the officers arrived at the scene.
In later statements, the perpetrator recounted that he lived in the apartment with his mother, his father, and his brother.
On the day of the matricide, he had purchased eight grams of mushrooms in Davie before driving to Markham Park, where he ingested two grams of the drug and smoked a marijuana cigarette.
Upon arriving home, he began to hallucinate. He said that he had asked his brother to "kill the cockroaches outside" and that his brother "looked like a lizard and a cockroach," according to the report.
Then he went to his room, took a 9mm firearm, and pointed it at his brother because he felt that his brother was a "bad guy." However, he stated that he decided not to kill him and put the weapon back in his room.
Shortly after, Torres's mother arrived home and they began to argue about his condition. The man, who had gone up to his room, climbed out the window naked to "save his dog."
It was then that the mother asked the young man to come in, and once inside, Torres, still hallucinating, thought that his mother was the "bad one" and shot her in the chest until she collapsed.
Jorge Torres, whose nationality has not been disclosed, is detained in the main jail of Broward without bail.
Two years ago, a similar crime emerged, when a Cuban teenager killed his mother.
Derek Rosa had researched the best way to kill someone and then applied it against his mother, who had only given birth to his sister 14 days earlier.
The boy confessed to the crime and explained that he got out of bed and grabbed a kitchen knife with a purple handle.
After killing her, he sent a selfie to a friend before calling 911 to confess to the crime on October 12, 2023, the police said.
At several points during the call, the operator was heard asking the minor why he killed his mother. He did not respond to this.
