Cuban Beatriz Corzo Canosa, a single mother of four children, claims that she has been abandoned by the institutions and has no home to raise her kids after being evicted from an empty space she accessed out of desperation.
Corzo made a public complaint on social media, stating that she feels abandoned by the authorities of the 10th of October municipality in Havana, after years of requesting assistance to obtain decent housing.
"I wonder where the government is, where the leaders are who fill their mouths to speak and tell so many lies while a mother without a roof wanders the street with her little children," said the Cuban woman.
She stated that on March 22, amidst a critical situation and without a roof over her head for herself and her children, she decided to occupy an abandoned space, an old dairy at the corner of Reyes and Luz. However, on March 26, while she was at the Pediatric Hospital of Centro Habana with her daughter in intensive care, government officials, police, and representatives from various entities evacuated the place, taking the children out to the street and removing their belongings.
"They took advantage of my absence. My daughter was in serious condition and I couldn't be in two places at the same time. They were not authorized to enter without my presence," denounced Corzo, who describes the eviction as a violation of her rights and an inhumane act towards her children.
Beatriz emphasizes that, despite having repeatedly gone to the Housing offices, the Municipal Government, and other state institutions, she has not received any effective response.
“Our president promised assistance for mothers like me, but it has all been a lie. There are many vacant spaces, and they are unable to provide them to those in need,” she questioned.
Currently, her children are at her sister's house while the youngest, just five months old, remains hospitalized. Corzo warned that this will only be the first of many public complaints she plans to make. “My children need to have a roof over their heads. I am tired of waiting,” she expressed.
