A Cuban man was arrested this weekend after stabbing his partner, a woman also of Cuban origin, in the city of Jacksonville, in Duval County, Florida.
The tragic incident of domestic violence occurred in the early hours of Sunday in the Arlington area, near the Arlington Expressway and Townsend Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO).
The source specified that around 3:20 a.m. on March 30, patrol officers responded to an emergency call alerting them to a possible stabbing at an apartment complex.
Upon arriving at the scene, the agents found Carlos Yordanis Aldana, 38 years old, in the vicinity of the complex, with stab wounds on his left hand and left shin.
Aldana was attended to by paramedics at the scene and then taken to a local hospital for treatment.
During the site inspection, the officers followed a trail of blood that led them from where Aldana was found to an apartment within the complex.
Upon entering, they discovered a devastating scene: the lifeless body of Yannelis De La Caridad Casales Antón, a 30-year-old Cuban, who had suffered multiple stab wounds.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency teams.
The preliminary investigations conducted by the homicide detectives of the JSO concluded that the crime was a case of domestic violence. However, authorities have not disclosed specific details regarding the relationship between the victim and the suspect, nor about the cause of the femicide.
Later that same day, after gathering forensic evidence, witness statements, and reviewing security camera footage, Carlos Yordanis Aldana was identified as the main suspect and arrested on a charge of murder.
After being discharged from the hospital, he was transferred to the Duval County jail, where he remains in custody.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the case through its social media, highlighting the swift intervention of the officers, which allowed the crime to be resolved in just a few hours and the alleged attacker to be apprehended.
“It is regrettable that a newcomer stabbed his young wife 13 times in Jacksonville. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young woman from Santiago!”, wrote journalist Yosmany Mayeta on social media.
In the comments section of his post, the communicator implied that the motive for the crime was an alleged infidelity of the young woman.
“Nothing a woman does within a relationship justifies her being tragically murdered. Men need to seriously reflect on their attitudes and stop their aggressive behaviors... If a woman has been with your friend, go ahead and move on, let her continue on her path,” pointed out Mayeta.
The communicator specified that Carlos Yordanis Aldana "spent three years under sanctions in Cuba and took his wife to the Yuma and [she] stayed alone for 3 years."
A relative of the victim requested assistance to repatriate the body as soon as possible. They do not want to cremated her because they want to give her one last hug. They haven't seen her in three years.
That same family source emphasized that while he was in Cuba, the now-accused made and broke commitments, meaning that he was also unfaithful.
Relatives of the victim have called for justice for the young woman.
On March 17, a video posted on the victim's Facebook profile showed the reunion of the couple at an airport, in what appears to have been the arrival of the now murderer in the United States.
In recent hours, hundreds of Cubans have expressed their dismay over the brutal femicide and have urged men to respond with caution to acts of jealousy or confirmed infidelities.
