Aris Arias Batalla, Head of Operations and Relief in Santiago de Cuba, spoke out about the ongoing rescue operation to locate a deep-sea fisherman who has been missing since Sunday.

The man whose trail was lost after entering the beach is Juan Ramón Herrera Silva, 46 years old and a resident of the coastal town belonging to Playa Verraco.

Arias Batalla specified that around 2 PM on March 30, Herrera Silva - who is involved in underwater fishing - entered the mentioned beach and did not come back out, according to the testimony of family members who were with him.

The Rescue and Salvage Unit belonging to Command 4 of the firefighters (Vista Alegre), Border Guards, and local fishermen have been working on the search and location of the victim, but as of this Tuesday, they have not yet found them.

The source added that "neighbors, friends, and colleagues from the 'Retiro Natural Reserve', located in the area, are concerned about the fate and disappearance of their companion" and that they have joined the search along the shore, as well as at elevated points from where the sea can be seen.

"Any eventuality or additional information can be communicated through the phones 105 (Firefighters) and 106 (National Revolutionary Police)," concluded the official source.

As of the conclusion of this report, there are no other details regarding the circumstances of the disappearance, nor are there any other official updates on the case.
