A date between a woman and her police neighbor in Miami ended in the worst way: This is what happened

A nighttime outing among neighbors in the same building in Miami ended in an unusual police case due to its mix of recklessness, violence, and abuse of trust.

A woman identified as Andrea Marie Assaf, 27 years old, was arrested and faces serious charges after being accused of breaking into the apartment of an off-duty police officer, driving his official vehicle without permission, and assaulting him with a mobile phone.

The incident, which occurred in the early morning of Monday, March 31, was reported by the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office (MDSO), which detailed the circumstances surrounding the unusual case, in which the accused allegedly acted with premeditation by using her access as an employee of the residential complex where both reside.

From an informal outing to the start of a criminal investigation

According to the court documents and the arrest affidavit - cited by the local press - it all began on the night of Sunday, March 30, when Assaf and the victim, a police officer who works for the City of Miami and resides in the same building, went out together for drinks.

Until that moment, no conflicts or incidents were reported between them.

Upon returning to the The Palmer Apartments complex, located in the Dadeland area, the agent left Assaf in the building and went up to his apartment.

But what seemed like a quiet night took an unexpected turn shortly after, when the young woman, allegedly, used an electronic access key that she had received for her job as a leasing agent of the building to enter the officer's apartment without authorization.

Theft of patrol vehicle and provocation

Once inside the agent's apartment, and taking advantage of his brief absence, Assaf took the keys to the unmarked official vehicle that the officer had left at his home.

He then drove the patrol car down Southwest 72nd Avenue, a busy residential area of Miami.

Far from trying to hide her actions, the woman took a photograph of herself at the wheel of the patrol car and sent it directly to the agent's phone, who immediately replied asking her not to continue driving the vehicle.

Later, Assaf returned the car to the complex's parking lot, but the incident was far from over.

Assault inside the building

Upon learning what had happened, the officer went to the woman's apartment to retrieve the keys to the vehicle, and there a new and violent altercation took place.

According to the official statement, Assaf threw the keys to the ground with a defiant attitude and then threw his mobile phone at the agent, hitting him on the back of the head.

The blow caused a minor laceration, which was documented in the medical and police report.

The official made it clear in his statement that he had not authorized Assaf to enter his residence or to use his official vehicle, which reinforces the criminal nature of the events.

Arrest, charges, and judicial process

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Andrea Marie Assaf was arrested shortly after the incident at her own residence within the same apartment complex. Authorities transported her to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK).

Assaf faces several charges for serious crimes, including: burglary of an unoccupied residence; grand theft of a vehicle; and assault on a law enforcement officer.

The authorities have not disclosed details about whether Assaf has any prior criminal record, but they have confirmed that he is awaiting a bail hearing that will take place in the coming days.
