A 54-year-old Cuban identified as Jesús Rodríguez was arrested this week by the Hialeah police after being involved in an altercation in which he threatened another man with a pocket knife.
According to the authorities, Rodríguez began to follow the victim seemingly without reason while both were in the area of 49th Street and 16th Avenue West, in the parking lot of a Home Depot.
The situation escalated when the victim confronted him, and the accused pulled out a knife from his pocket, threatening to kill him.
The victim managed to move away quickly, avoiding a direct attack, while Rodríguez tried to hide among the parked cars.
According to the police report -quoted by America Tevé- a witness who witnessed the scene approached an off-duty Hialeah police officer in the area and informed him about the threat.
Thanks to the quick intervention of that officer, the accused was apprehended shortly thereafter.
At the time of his arrest, the agents found the knife in Rodríguez's pocket, which confirmed the witness's report.
"The comment is that he pulled a knife on a truck driver," stated a Cuban who frequents the area and claimed to have known the accused for years, as reported by the cited media outlet.
"They're not aggressive people. They've been around for years. They don't behave badly or anything like that. They get along with all of us. We've been looking for work here and they've been getting along with us for years, not just now," he insisted, surprised by the incident.
"He is not aggressive or anything. I don't know what could have happened. We need to see what happened.", confirmed another Cuban who frequents the area, who also expressed his surprise at Rodríguez's behavior.
Following his arrest, a judge imposed a bail of $5,000 on Jesús Rodríguez and issued a restraining order in relation to the victim.
As of the closure of this note, there are no other confirmed details about what happened.
