A Cuban is sentenced to 20 years in prison for violent assaults on motorcyclists in Guantánamo

The accused used a knife to threaten and injure a 65-year-old motorcyclist, and the following day, a 71-year-old driver of an electric tricycle.

The Provincial Court of Guantánamo sentenced a man to 20 years of imprisonment for committing two violent assaults on motorists in the city within just two days.

The events were judged during a hearing held on Monday, March 24th.

According to the court's findings, the accused initially approached a motorcycle driver and requested a ride to the southern part of the city. However, upon reaching the destination, the assailant placed a knife to the neck of the victim, a 65-year-old man, and demanded that he hand over all his belongings.

Despite the driver struggling with the assailant, he was able to take the wallet, documents, cash, and his cellphone before fleeing quickly. During the struggle, the elderly man sustained a cut on the ring finger of his right hand.

The next day, the wrongdoer repeated his modus operandi with a driver of an electric tricycle, whom he offered money in exchange for a ride to a poultry farm of the Ministry of the Interior. Before reaching the location, he threatened him with a knife and pushed him into an area of underbrush thick with marabou, where he demanded that he hand over his belongings.

On this occasion, the violence was greater. After robbing the 71-year-old motorist, the thief cut him on the neck and struck him repeatedly on the wound before leaving on the tricycle.
