Migrants who entered the U.S. through the CBP One application are receiving notifications from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informing them of the cancellation of their stay permits (paroles).
Those who entered the country through the southern border of the United States using the mentioned application are being ordered to leave the country "immediately," authorities admitted this Tuesday in statements to the agency The Associated Press.
“The cancellation of these authorizations is a promise fulfilled to the American people to secure our borders and protect national security”, the media affairs unit of the Department of Homeland Security stated to the aforementioned agency.
The authorities confirmed that cancellation notices were sent to the recipients of CBP One, but did not specify how many.
In the document migrants are urged to voluntarily self-deport using the same application they used to enter, which has been renamed CBP Home.
“It’s time for you to leave the United States,” wrote the Department of Homeland Security in the message that some Cubans have also received in recent hours, as reported on Monday by Univision journalist, Daniel Benítez.
“If you do not leave the United States immediately, you will be subject to potential police measures that may result in your expulsion from the country”, adds the official communication.
The emails reference articles from Title 8 of the United States Code to justify the action; and they warn that “any benefit you receive in the United States related to your parole, such as work authorization, will also be revoked.”
Moreover, it is stated that those affected "will be subject to possible criminal proceedings, fines, and civil penalties" if they do not leave the country voluntarily.
Immigration changes in the United States under the administration of Donald Trump
The CBP One application was one of the fundamental pillars of Joe Biden's government's strategy to facilitate legal pathways for entry into the United States, with the aim of discouraging illegal border crossings.
By the end of December 2024, approximately 936,500 people had received authorization to enter the country through appointments managed via this application at border crossings with Mexico.
However, in a drastic shift in policy, current president Donald Trump canceled these appointments for new applicants from his first day in office, leaving thousands of people stranded in Mexico who had scheduled appointments until early February.
The Department of Homeland Security has strongly criticized the use of the temporary parole figure under the Biden administration.
On Monday, the DHS stated that Biden has used this authority more than any other president since it was established in 1952, and that this measure "has further fueled the worst border crisis in U.S. history."
In line with this stance, the DHS announced last month the revocation of humanitarian parole, another form of temporary permission granted to 532,000 people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, who had entered the country by air with the support of a financial sponsor. This permission will expire on April 24.
The Trump administration has also announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 600,000 Venezuelans and 500,000 Haitians, although this measure has been temporarily blocked by a federal judge.
Among those affected are approximately 350,000 Venezuelans who, in principle, would lose TPS starting Monday.

CBP Home is an application launched by the U.S. government for immigrants in irregular situations to notify their intention to voluntarily leave the country. This tool is an evolution of CBP One, and its purpose is to provide an orderly process for those who wish to leave the United States without facing more severe legal consequences. The Trump administration is promoting its use for self-deportations.

Migrants who do not leave the U.S. may face police measures that could result in their expulsion from the country. Furthermore, they could be subject to potential criminal proceedings, fines, and civil penalties. Authorities have warned that any benefits related to their parole, such as work authorization, will also be revoked.
What is the difference between humanitarian parole and the permission granted through CBP One?
Humanitarian parole is a type of temporary permission granted to individuals from specific countries such as Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, who entered by air with financial sponsors. On the other hand, the permission granted through CBP One allowed migrants to enter through the southern border of the U.S. via appointments managed by the application. Both types of permits are being reviewed and revoked under the Trump administration.
