Cubans help a child from Ciego de Ávila with a brain injury

The story, which went viral quickly, involved financial donations, humanitarian assistance, and support from communities such as that of bodybuilding.

In a country marked by resource scarcity, the value of community once again demonstrates that when it comes to helping, Cubans know no limits. This time, the cause that has united us is that of Miguelito, a child from Ciego de Ávila diagnosed with a static brain injury, a permanent neurological condition that affects his motor development and requires specialized treatments and ongoing care.

The story of the little boy became known through the bodybuilder turned community activist Rafa J Bacher King, who shared Miguelito and his mother's case on his social media, appealing to the solidarity of those who, like him, believe in the power of doing good. What followed was a genuine wave of support.

Rafa, who is associated with the National Bodybuilding Federation (FNFC), explained that this assistance was born as a gesture of appreciation for an anonymous individual who sponsored the first bodybuilding event in Ciego de Ávila.

"Classified donor, you helped make the first bodybuilding competition in Ciego de Ávila a reality and fulfill a dream. Now we, FNFC, are assisting this family with a contribution that, while small, means a lot to this mother," he wrote on his Facebook profile.

"It wasn't much that was given to her, but for a mother with a child suffering from a static brain injury, any gesture is monumental," she added.

From medications to food, from virtual hugs to cash transfers, the network of solidarity has multiplied.

The impact was immediate, and Rafa, overwhelmed by the messages of support, had to publish the details for those who wished to help Miguelito's mother directly.

"Aeropuerto, final Inés street, ask for 'La Negra', Miguelito's mother. Everyone knows her there," he mentioned.

There was no shortage of affection or small gestures that, although they may seem insignificant, bring great meaning to a family's life. Rafa excitedly recounted how a fan gave him two apples for Miguelito. "Perhaps those two apples were your salary for the day. May God multiply it for you."

The bond between the family and the campaign promoter grew so strong that Miguelito and his mother invited him to lunch. “I enjoyed it a lot. The food was excellent.”

And the commitment doesn't stop there. Rafa announced that he will soon be providing assistance to Carmen Laura, a 21-year-old with cerebral palsy and left hemiplegia, thanks to the support of two followers based in the United States. "Thanks to you, we will be able to bring blessings to her home and hearts. I am just a servant; you are the Tranka of Cuba."
