A person was arrested while trafficking drugs in Centro Habana

The man, identified as Page, was allegedly selling drugs in the La Victoria neighborhood, in the Pueblo Nuevo council of Centro Habana, when the police intercepted him.

These detentions occur in a context of growing public concern over the presence of various narcotics in vulnerable communities in Havana, where clandestine sales points are proliferating, despite the strengthening of police measures.

Despite the "crusade" against drugs, specialists and citizens agree that institutional responses remain more reactive than preventive and are largely ineffective in tackling a rapidly advancing issue, particularly among the youth.

The spread of drugs in communities is not a recent phenomenon, but rather the result of years of neglect regarding the factors that contribute to their expansion, such as the lack of economic opportunities, the deterioration of social services, and the inadequacy of effective public policies for addiction prevention.
