The General Customs of Cuba confiscated this Saturday more than 16,000 Canadian dollars and euros at the "José Martí" International Airport in Havana, according to reports from the regime's authorities.

Wiliam Pérez González, Deputy Chief of Customs, detailed on the social media platform X that this amount was hidden within the tubes that make up the suitcase's structure.

The money was hidden in that way to not declare it upon leaving the country.

"In constant iALERT! Cuban Customs detects hidden in the tubes of luggage 16 thousand pesos in Canadian dollars and Euros, which were intended to be illegally extracted through Havana airport," Pérez wrote.

In his post, he specified that the seizure of money occurs as part of an "intensified" campaign against drugs.

In Cuba, individuals transporting more than 5,000 US dollars or the equivalent in other currencies must declare the amount to Customs; otherwise, they may be subject to the confiscation of that money by the regime.

Just last year, in the first three months of 2024, Cuba's Customs seized 3.2 million Cuban pesos and 91,000 USD.

The head of the Cuban Customs, Nelson Cordovés Reyes, acknowledged that this was a trend that "has been increasing."

At the beginning of this month, customs halted an attempt to take 26,000 euros hidden in luggage out of the country during a check at José Martí International Airport in Havana.

The money was hidden in the double bottom of a suitcase and sealed with nylon.

In recent months, the Cuban regime has provided evidence on social media of the strengthening of customs controls, which has enabled them to detect drugs and even gold bars at airports.

In Varadero, they seized 30 thousand "fake" dollars, for props, at the "Juan Gualberto Gómez de Varadero" Airport. The banknotes were labeled with the phrase "For Motion Pictures Purposes."
