Cuban father questions María Elvira after the deportation of his wife

Carlos Yuniel Valle criticizes Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar for her silence following the deportation of his wife, Heidy Sánchez, to Cuba.

Carlos Yuniel Valle, husband of Heidy Sánchez Tejeda, a Cuban mother recently deported to the island, criticized Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar for her silence regarding the forced separation of their family.

“God my, I can't keep watching my wife suffer like this. Where are the human rights in this country? She doesn't deserve to be going through this. Respond, María Elvira Salazar, you've been silent on this case. Don't leave Congresswoman Kathy Castor from Tampa alone in this fight. Please, I plead with you…”, Valle wrote on his Facebook account.

The message arises amid growing public pressure regarding the case of Sánchez, who was deported to Cuba after attending a routine appointment with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), leaving behind her husband and her one-year-old daughter, both U.S. citizens.

The Democratic Congresswoman Kathy Castor, representative of Florida's 14th district, denounced the deportation as a “cruel and illegal” act and sent a letter to President Donald Trump demanding humanitarian parole so that Heidy Sánchez can return and reunite with her family.

"Mrs. Sánchez was ruthlessly torn from the arms of her family. This separation is contrary to American values," Castor stated in his official letter.

"The baby, who is still in the breastfeeding period, had to be hospitalized after the trauma," she stated.

The legislator harshly criticized the immigration policy of Trump and called for consistency with the speeches defending family values. She even urged him to act “in memory of Pope Francis,” who recently passed away, and to respect fundamental human rights.

In contrast, Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, representative of South Florida and known for her active stance on immigration issues, has not publicly commented on this case.

The lack of response has generated frustration among sectors of the Cuban community in Tampa and local leaders who are calling for bipartisan action.

The family's lawyer, Claudia Cañizares, explained that Heidy Sánchez had a deportation order since 2019, but she had initiated a process to try to reopen her case.

The deportation occurred after ICE moved up the appointment without proper notification and executed the measure suddenly.

“Sánchez was treated as just another number in the statistics of deportations. There are other cases with less humanitarian weight that have received extensions. This was unfair,” Cañizares pointed out.

Heidy Sánchez remains in Cuba after being deported along with 82 migrants, while her daughter continues in the United States with her father, facing physical and emotional repercussions.
