A Cuban who worked as a delivery driver for a contractor for Amazon was arrested on Friday, accused of and discarding the empty boxes in the parking lot of a store in Miami-Dade.

The Police reported on Monday the arrest of Adrián Barrera, 32 years old, after agents caught him in the act of throwing numerous cardboard boxes in the parking lot of a Lowe’s located at 9191 Southwest 137th Avenue in Miami-Dade County.

The officers arrived at the scene after an alert from a store employee who saw Barrera throwing boxes from a white box truck, reported news outlets.

According to the arrest report, the driver was removing the items from the packages and storing them in the vehicle before discarding the packaging.

The police indicated that the suspect was also found with around one gram of crystal methamphetamine (crystal meth) in a jar in the front door of the truck.

Barrera is facing multiple serious charges that include grand theft, violation of Florida's waste law, and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records accessed by the press.

According to Florida legislation, interstate or intrastate cargo theft of less than 50,000 dollars constitutes a second-degree felony, for which prison sentences and hefty fines may be imposed.

Barrera told investigators that he was working for an external contractor that performs deliveries for Amazon and, the day before, he had collected 13 pallets with products from the company, valued at approximately $45,000.

The pallets contained packages with Amazon labels, intended for customers in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

But instead of making the deliveries, the delivery person took the merchandise and discarded the packaging outside of Lowe’s, where he was discovered and subsequently apprehended.

Barrera was admitted to the county jail. When appearing in court this Sunday, the judge set bail at $10,000 for the three charges against him.
