A train carrying alcohol barrels derailed and caused a fire at kilometer 80 of the Central Railway in the municipality of Matanzas.

The incident occurred on the outskirts of the Benavides community, near the town of Paso del Medio, when one of the tank cars overturned and three others derailed, resulting in a fire.

René Peña García, deputy director of the Western Railway Company, stated that intensive efforts are ongoing to clear the tracks obstructed by the accident.

Fire brigades 1 and 2 of the city of Matanzas managed to extinguish the fire, preventing the flames from spreading to other parts of the convoy or to nearby populated areas.

Representatives of the Cuban Railways Union and the Provincial Transport Directorate are present at the location.
