A man was apprehended in the municipality of Mella, in Santiago de Cuba, after being caught stealing parts of the railway infrastructure and jeopardizing transportation safety.
The information was published this Monday by the pro-government profile Héroes del Moncada on Facebook, where it was detailed that the individual was stealing sleepers from the railway, causing "severe damage to its structure" and making it unsafe for train passage.

"The confrontation of criminal acts that affect the economy is a task of great importance for the Blue Heroes," the publication noted.
"There is no tolerance whatsoever for anyone unscrupulous who commits these crimes," added the regime's spokesperson, highlighting that the government will be unyielding against those who commit such offenses.
The sleepers maintain the stability of the rails, and their theft weakens the track, increasing the risk of deformations or accidents.
Although no further details were provided about the detainee, the regime-affiliated profile hailed the swift action of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) in response to the incident.
This is not the first time that the Cuban regime has shared on social media the arrests of alleged perpetrators of vandalism against the railway lines.
In April, a man was caught in the act of dismantling part of the railway line in the Arroyo Naranjo district of Havana, to steal the reinforcements that support the ties of the track.
According to the official profile El Cubano Fiel on Facebook, thanks to the quick report from neighbors in the Mantilla area, a chief from the National Revolutionary Police managed to intercept the offender just as he was dismantling one of the structures of the railroad, hammer in hand.
This type of crime is very serious, as it further deteriorates the already precarious condition of the railway tracks, increasing the risk of derailments and potential loss of human lives.
