One person dead and several injured after a violent accident with a fire in Hollywood, Florida

The collision between the two vehicles caused a fire. The injured were taken to the hospital while the accident is being investigated.

A tragic traffic accident that occurred Sunday afternoon in Hollywood, Florida, resulted in one death and several injuries after two vehicles violently collided at the intersection of Sheridan Street and North 46th Avenue.

According to the Hollywood police, the crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. and resulted in a horrific scene: a truck ended up overturned in the middle of the road, while the other vehicle crashed into the wall of a private community and was engulfed in flames.

Images of the incident shared on social media showed a fireball engulfing the car, accompanied by a column of black smoke visible from several meters away.

The incident prompted the deployment of emergency teams, which transferred the injured to the Memorial Regional Hospital. So far, authorities have not disclosed the identity of the fatal victim or the health status of the survivors.

Witnesses assured NBC Miami that the pickup truck collided sideways with the other car before overturning, causing it to crash into the wall of the residential complex "Town Houses of Emerald Hills," which triggered the fire.

The case is being investigated by the Homicide Unit of the Traffic Division of the Hollywood Police Department.

This accident raises the number of fatalities this year in South Florida due to traffic incidents involving fire to five, according to data from the state Department of Health. Three of those deaths occurred in Broward County, including the one this Sunday.

Authorities reiterate the call for caution on the roads, especially in light of the increase in serious accidents in the region.

A string of similar and fatal accidents in Florida

The south of Florida has been the scene of several serious accidents in recent months. On April 7, a car engulfed in flames caused the closure of Interstate 95, resulting in traffic chaos and fear among drivers.

Just a few days later, on April 11, an aircraft accident in the area left at least three dead after a small plane crashed near a road and caused a vehicle fire in Palm Beach County.

In December 2023, a serious traffic accident left one person with minor injuries and a car engulfed in flames in West Miami. It all began when a sedan—reportedly having lost its brakes—collided with the rear of a pickup truck that was stopped at a traffic light.
