The authorities of the women’s prison La Bellotex, in Matanzas denied parole to the Lady in White and 11J detainee Sissi Abascal Zamora.

The decision is part of "a policy of systematic punishment for their stance of resistance within the prison," reported the NGO Cubalex.

Abascal's mother, Annia Zamora, stated that the refusal was justified by an alleged "negative behavior."

"The reason? Sissi refuses to participate in political activities, to study, or to work, as a form of protest against being unjustly imprisoned," he specified.

Zamora assured that his daughter has "a firm political stance, and no one can take that away from her. That is the work of State Security."

The repeated denial of penitentiary benefits is a common practice against individuals deprived of their liberty for political reasons, explains Cubalex.

In January, Abascal was denied any reduction of sentence, maintaining his status as a "negative prisoner" within the jail.

"They are only supplying water at night, nothing else, so they have to bathe with dirty, freezing water," her mother reported, also raising concerns about the inhumane conditions of detention, which include cold, hunger, and extreme restrictions.

Sissi Abascal received a sentence of 6 years in prison for the crimes of contempt, assault, and public disorder.

She was arrested alongside the opposition figure Saily Navarro following their participation in the protests on July 11, 2021, where they demanded democratic changes and the release of political prisoners in Cuba.
