At 8:00 a.m. (Cuban local time) on June 19, the US dollar is selling for 378 CUP, representing a two-peso increase compared to its value from the previous day, according to the daily report from the independent media elTOQUE.

The dollar has risen three pesos so far this week, although it is still far from the 385 CUP that the Observatory of Currencies and Finances of Cuba (OMFi) predicted as the central value by the end of June, of course, there are still several days left in the month.

Currently, the difference in the selling price of the euro and the dollar in Cuba is 32 pesos. Although today the U.S. currency is narrowing the gap, the difference between the two remains substantial.

The euro, for its part, remains unchanged today and is still valued at 410 CUP.

An article published recently by elTOQUE anticipated – based on an analysis from the Observatorio de Monedas y Finanzas de Cuba (OMFi) – that it was likely the exchange market for the remainder of June would become "more active and unstable" than in previous months, and that is indeed the case.

The Observatory of Currencies and Finances of Cuba (OMFi) explained that in May there was an excess of supply, and anticipated that June could be dominated by an excess of demand, which would raise the exchange rate of the currencies.

According to the forecasting models of the OMFi, the likely values for the exchange rate in Cuba as of June 30, 2025, would be as follows:

-For the US dollar (USD), a central value of 385 Cuban pesos is projected, with a maximum value of 408 and a minimum of 365.

Regarding the euro (EUR), a central value of 406 Cuban pesos is estimated, with a maximum of 421 and a minimum of 385.

Finally, for the Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), the forecast indicates a central value of 274 Cuban pesos, reaching a maximum of 284 and a minimum of 260.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Currency Exchange Rate in Cuba

Why is the dollar rising in Cuba?

The dollar has experienced an increase in its value in the informal Cuban market due to an excess of demand in the currency exchange market. According to the Currency and Finance Observatory of Cuba (OMFi), June could be dominated by this demand, which raises the exchange rate of currencies. Additionally, the constant devaluation of the Cuban peso against the dollar drives Cubans to seek foreign currencies as a way to protect their purchasing power.

What is the current exchange rate of the dollar and the euro in Cuba?

Currently, the dollar is sold at 378 CUP and the euro at 410 CUP in the Cuban informal market, according to a report from the independent outlet elTOQUE. These rates may fluctuate in the coming hours or days due to market volatility and changes in the supply and demand for these currencies.

What are the projections for the exchange rate in Cuba by the end of June 2025?

The Observatory of Currencies and Finance of Cuba (OMFi) projects that by June 30, 2025, the dollar could have a central value of 385 Cuban pesos, while the euro might reach a central value of 406 Cuban pesos. These projections reflect a changing market and a possible further appreciation of both currencies for the remainder of the month.

How does the exchange rate impact the economy of Cubans?

The exchange rate in the Cuban informal market determines the real purchasing power of citizens in a context of scarcity and inflation. The constant devaluation of the Cuban peso against the dollar and the euro forces Cubans to turn to the informal market to acquire essential products or make transactions not available in state commerce, particularly affecting those who rely on income in national currency.
