The authorities in Florida and the United States Marshals Service (US Marshals) rescued 60 missing children, presumed victims of trafficking, during the so-called Operation Dragon Eye, considered one of the largest child rescue operations in the history of the country.

The operation, which lasted two weeks in the Tampa Bay area of central Florida, also resulted in the arrest of eight individuals facing charges of human trafficking, child neglect, drug possession, and drug trafficking, according to a statement released on Monday by Florida's Attorney General, James Uthmeier.

“If you victimize children, you will go to prison, end of story,” Uthmeier declared during a press conference.

The rescued minors, aged between 9 and 17, received medical attention and psychological support after being found.

Many of them were reported missing and were being sought by the authorities.

The operation was led by the U.S. Marshals Service in collaboration with nearly 20 state and federal agencies, as part of a joint effort against human trafficking networks.

"60 children saved... that number sends the message that Florida will never be a safe place for traffickers," warned Mark Glass, commissioner of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

Authorities emphasized that they will continue to strengthen operations against human trafficking of minors and child exploitation throughout the state.
