"Now we are foreigners!": Cuban erupts upon seeing food prices at Guardalavaca beach

A Cuban denounces on social media the high prices of lunches at Guardalavaca beach, Holguín. A plate of rice and chicken costs 2,100 pesos, while fish is sold for 2,000 pesos.

A Cuban reported on social media about the high food prices at Guardalavaca beach in Holguín and shared a video showing the cost of a simple lunch in that tourist area of eastern Cuba.

“Do you know how much this costs? 250 pesos,” the young man says while showing a small box of peach juice. “Gentlemen, when did prices go up so much? Oh my God, now we are foreigners,” he added, surprised.

In the video posted on TikTok by the user @yoel_daniel0, it also shows the prices of the food dishes offered at the beach: a dish with rice and chicken costs 2,100 Cuban pesos, while one with fish instead of chicken is sold for 2,000 pesos.

"I can't buy those plates of food when that money could be used to buy something for the house," lamented the young man, who recorded the video during a visit to the beach.

Guardalavaca beach is one of the main tourist destinations in eastern Cuba and attracts both domestic and foreign visitors.

However, in recent years, prices in these areas have increased significantly, leaving many Cubans without access to these recreational spaces due to low wages and rising inflation in the country.
