The Cuban regime received technical support from Venezuela to repair the roads and bridges damaged by Hurricane Melissa in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

The Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, announced in a post on Facebook that a flight from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela arrived early in the morning at Antonio Maceo Grajales International Airport, carrying a team of technical specialists and members of the electrical sector tasked with assisting in the rehabilitation of the road infrastructure affected by the weather phenomenon.

The delegation was welcomed by the First Deputy Minister of Transport, Luis Rosés, and the Deputy Minister of Construction, Ricardo Carbajo Chelala, along with provincial authorities.

According to Rodríguez, the brigade includes civil engineers, bridge experts, roadway technicians, and communication specialists.

A group of workers from the electrical sector has also joined to participate in the restoration of basic services in the most affected areas.

The minister described the gesture as a demonstration of "solidarity" between the two countries, although in practice it reinforces the bonds of dependency between two authoritarian regimes that mutually sustain each other through political and economic exchanges.

In the coming hours, the arrival of two vessels with supplementary resources is expected.

The first, part of the ALBA mechanism, will arrive this afternoon in Santiago de Cuba, while the second will set sail from the Venezuelan port of La Guaira, carrying food and mattresses intended for affected communities, Rodríguez emphasized.

The arrival of the Venezuelan technical mission is officially presented as a boost to recovery following Hurricane Melissa, but it also highlights the political use of cooperation between Havana and Caracas, which maintain a close alliance based more on ideological interests than on tangible results for the Cuban population.

Previously, the Cuban regime had reported that a ship carrying more than five thousand tons of food, medicines, supplies, and toys departed from the port of La Guaira in Venezuela, heading to eastern Cuba to assist those affected by Hurricane Melissa.
