Severe local storms, accompanied by heavy hail, were reported on Monday afternoon in areas of the Artemisa province, according to preliminary reports.
“From Artemisa, reports indicate hail, heavy rain, strong wind gusts, and frequent lightning strikes,” reported meteorologist Raydel Ruysánchez.

The expert shared on Facebook images that "show the convective core over the area," as well as an "impressive storm cloud, captured from Güira de Melena."
A report from Telecentro ARTV-Artemisa explained, based on expert analysis, that atmospheric instability, along with daytime warming and local factors, contributed to the formation of these severe conditions.
He also warned that “such events can cause damage to lightweight roofs, electrical lines, trees, and crops” and urged the population to take precautions and stay informed.
Among the recommendations, he urged residents to "avoid going outside unless necessary, protect windows, secure outdoor objects, and disconnect electrical equipment during the storm."
In the Facebook group “Weather Enthusiasts”, Yosmelvi Páez Cornell also reported on the storms, sharing photos and videos of the rain and hail.
"A severe local storm has just been reported a few minutes ago in the province of Artemisa. It was characterized by abundant hail the size of peas and strong electrical discharges, in addition to very heavy rain," he detailed.
In other posts, Páez reported storms recorded after six in the evening in the municipalities of Alquízar and Güira de Melena, with lightning strikes, an abundance of hail, very strong gusty winds, and heavy rainfall.
The images of the weather events show the intensity of the rains and the size of the hailstones, larger even than a chickpea, in the areas of Artemisa.
Earlier this Monday, meteorologist Ruisánchez had announced that in the afternoon, there would be showers, rain, and thunderstorms in some areas, particularly in the interior regions of Artemisa province, which could be intense.
It also warned about "the possibility of a severe local storm, which could include hail, heavy rainfall, and significant wind gusts."
"The atmospheric instability will be enhanced by a strong warming, local factors, and the proximity of weather systems, such as a tropical wave and a low-pressure area in the upper layers of the atmosphere to the south of the region," he elaborated.
He stated that local-scale weather models and satellite simulations from global models indicated a "development of strong convective cores over the province."
Ruisánchez urged residents to exercise caution and avoid exposure during a storm.
