Adela Amparo Riverón, mother of 11-year-old Rocío, who has a tumor in her left eye socket, has sent a new video to CiberCuba to clarify that "there is no treatment for her daughter in Cuba, nor qualified personnel who can attend to her." She responds this way to the dozens of suggestions she has received to take her to La Ceguera or certain hospitals. The girl, she insists, has been through all of them.
"Rocío currently has no indicated treatment. They have only prescribed rest, cold compresses, and some drops for when her eye is very irritated, as it is now, as she has been in crisis for three months. We have gone through several hospitals in this country: William Soler, Juan Manuel Márquez, Ramón Pando Ferrer, and La Ceguera, which many people have recommended to me. At Ramón Pando Ferrer, La Ceguera, the first hospital I went to told me that they had nothing to do with my daughter; that they could not operate on her, that they had no way to do it. They even gave me a summary of her medical history, and I have never received any further care for her there," she stated in an interview with CiberCuba.
"My daughter is being treated at the Oncology Center. Whenever I take her for a consultation or, like right now, when she's having a rather severe crisis, I call the doctor or go there to present myself, and they attend to her. Just because she is being treated at the Oncology Center doesn't mean that she has cancer. The tumor is congenital, completely benign, just veins. The issue with my daughter is that in this country, there is no way to provide the treatment she needs. There is neither the qualified personnel to carry out this type of treatment, nor has it ever been done here in the country, because they lack the necessary equipment for this case."
"My daughter is in crisis mode. She is 11 years old, and she has been experiencing this crisis since she was 11 months old. Now, she has been in a continuous crisis for three months, whereas before, the crises would last a maximum of 15 to 20 days, and they were minimal compared to how she is right now. That is why I am asking the whole world for help for my daughter. I ask you kindly. I beg you, help me ensure that my daughter receives treatment."
Adela Riverón also expressed her gratitude to everyone who has reached out to her, asking how they can help. "Thank you to all the people who are willing to support my daughter's case. We will continue the fight, and may God allow us to secure my girl's treatment," she concluded.
This Cuban mother, from San Miguel del Padrón in Havana, is seeking professional help so that her daughter Rocío can receive proper treatment for the orbital lymphangioma (tumor in her left eye) that she suffers from.
In statements to CiberCuba, Riverón expressed regret that for the past three years, the girl has not undergone an MRI in Cuba, which used to be done every six months to assess the progression of her illness.
According to her, her daughter has been in crisis for three months. "I see her getting worse each time," she said a few days ago to this platform, when she expressed her fear that the precariousness of the public health system on the Island could worsen her daughter's situation.
