The disappearances of individuals have become very frequent in recent times in Cuba, amidst a context of growing social insecurity. The search for citizens whose whereabouts are unknown often falls to family members, friends, and acquaintances, who turn to social media and independent press to spread the reports and seek help from the public, due to the lack of immediate and effective responses from the authorities.

The case of Doraiky Águila Vázquez, who has been missing since mid-March, illustrates this situation. Her mother, Maura Vázquez, recently made another desperate public appeal to find her daughter, who is in urgent need of medical attention.

Due to the neglect and inaction of the institutional system, families face enormous difficulties in locating their loved ones, which adds to the uncertainty and distress of their absence and the fear of an unfortunate outcome.
