Shock and sorrow have been caused by the passing of Yasiel Amador López, a 30-year-old resident of Guanajay, Artemisa, who had been missing since May 24.

The lifeless body was found last Saturday near the stadium in Guanajay, in an area close to the molding plant and the municipal jail.

The news was shared by the profile of Reporte Cuba Ya, which indicated that the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, and was therefore transferred directly to the cemetery.

According to the preliminary assessment by Forensic Medicine, the body had been at the location for approximately a week, and all indications point to suicide.

Yasiel suffered from schizophrenia, and his family claims he never lacked medication or support at home. On the day of his disappearance, he left for work and never returned, which immediately raised alarm among his loved ones.

Since then, an intense search was launched led by her sister Yanet Amador, supported by neighbors, volunteers, and organizations such as the Red Cross and the fire department of Artemisa.

In statements to CiberCuba, Yanet recounted that her brother was disoriented for more than 15 days and had no access to his medical treatment.

Despite having sought help in several places, no one contacted the police or informed her family, even though her phone numbers were widely circulated on social media.

“She asked for help in several places and no one called. The police didn’t help at all, but at least they could have contacted me to look for him,” the young woman questioned in her message.

The sister confirmed that at the site of the discovery, all of his belongings were found alongside the body, including his mobile phone.

She expressed her gratitude to the institutions that supported her during the search: "Especially to the Red Cross, which helped me at every turn."

Yasiel's case had been urgently circulated through social media and independent outlets due to his medical condition.

In an email sent weeks ago to the editorial team of CiberCuba, Yanet explained that the young man did not know his name or where he lived, and that he had been seen on several occasions in the surroundings of the municipality, between Finca El Americano and Chacón, from May 26 to May 30.

A post from May 25 in the Facebook group "Revolico Artemisa" even offered a reward for anyone who could provide information about their whereabouts.

From Reporte Cuba Ya, they indicate that Yasiel's story should serve as a call to strengthen mental health systems, family support, and emotional containment in Cuba for individuals with this type of illness.
