A Cuban content creator living in Dubai has shared on social media his experience and recommendations for those wishing to legally migrate to the United Arab Emirates, a destination increasingly mentioned among young Cubans seeking new opportunities outside the island.

"I am Cuban and I live in Dubai. In this series, I will be telling you everything you need to know to come and live here, no stories and no nonsense," said the TikToker known as Magam Vlogs (@magam.vlogs) in a video that has circulated widely on TikTok.

The young man explains that there are no direct flights between Cuba and Dubai due to political restrictions, so Cubans often fly first to countries like Russia (Moscow or Kazan) and from there take a flight to the Emirates. He mentions that a tourist visa is the most common option, lasting between 60 to 90 days and costing an estimated 1,500 to 2,200 dollars, depending on the agency or the season.

Additionally, it is recommended to bring at least an additional 2,500 dollars to support oneself during the first few months while looking for employment.

"There are jobs, but they don't just fall from the sky. If you know how to get around, have experience, or at least the right attitude, you'll find one," he stated, emphasizing that English is essential for accessing better jobs and salaries.

In a second video, Magam details the basic cost of living for a person in Dubai:

  • Renta: The most affordable options, such as bed spaces, cost between 200 and 500 dollars a month, although they are illegal. He suggests looking for legal private rooms (master rooms) ranging from 800 to 1,500 dollars, which can be shared among several people to reduce costs.
  • Food: Monthly expenses range from 50 to 150 dollars if purchased at budget supermarkets.
  • Transportation: Approximately $50 per month using the subway and bus.

Their testimonies have sparked divided reactions among users. Some expressed gratitude for the information, while others questioned the calculations. “Do you live off air?” asked one user upon learning about the monthly food budget.

Other cases: starting from scratch

Magam's experience adds to other stories of Cubans who have shared their migration journey to Dubai. Last June, Stephanie Fuste recounted how she settled there with her mother without relying on “inheritances or habibis” (romantic relationships).

In his testimony, he detailed how he overcame the initial shock and managed to carve out a path in digital marketing by building his own professional project.

Another influencer, known as @el_sitio_de_rose, has warned about three common mistakes when emigrating to Dubai: not knowing English, emigrating during the hottest months (May-October), and doing so with children without sufficient resources. “Here, without English, opportunities are very limited,” she stated in a video, where she also emphasized that the cost of living can be incompatible with raising children in decent conditions.

A possible but demanding destination

Although Dubai presents itself as a place with opportunities for those willing to take risks, it also imposes significant challenges: language, initial investment, housing legality, and a high cost of living.

The shared testimonies agree on one thing: it is not a destination for improvisation. Being well-informed, planning ahead, and arriving prepared are key to ensuring that the dream of emigrating does not turn into a nightmare.
