The Cinecittá pizzeria, located at the corner of 23 and 12 in El Vedado, has been one of the most popular gastronomic references in Havana for years. However, as content creator Ari (@ari_delahabana) showcased in a recent Instagram video, its current condition is far from the splendor of the past.
Ari visited the iconic restaurant, today adorned with decorations for the 26th of July, and the first thing he encountered was sweltering heat because the air conditioning was not working and there was no alternative ventilation.
"Let's see how it goes," he said at the start of the experience, and soon it became clear that the outcome would not be favorable.
The first thing he ordered was a pitcher of beer (200 CUP) that was slightly less watered down than that of the Castillo de Jagua restaurant, located at 23 and G, a place visited in the first episode of this video series.
Then, the young woman and her partner tried some cheese balls (300 CUP) that looked promising, but turned out to be "disgusting," with a dough described as a mix of stale flour and cheese water.
The disappointment continued with a ham and cheese pizza (650 CUP), well-presented but with a sour crust that overshadowed any effort of the filling.
“I used to come here when I was a child and it was really good,” Ari lamented. The only positive point was to highlight the kindness of the staff, although that did not make up for the poor quality of the food.
The Cinecittá pizzeria, a former icon of gastronomy in Havana, is now just a shadow of its former self.
